Tree Planting in National Tree Week

Learning to Age Trees!Trees were presented to the Award winning schools who took part in Garden Show Ireland’s 2011 Allianz Scarecrow Street and the Allianz Schools Garden Challenge during National Tree Week.

On Friday 2 December 2011, Award winners gathered at CAFRE Greenmount Campus and primary school kids from throughout Northern Ireland set off on a Nature Trail led by RSPB to learn how to tell the age of a tree. Meanwhile the team from Laurel Hill Community College who had won a Gold in the Schools Garden Challenge at this year’s Show, learnt the intricacies of planting a tree properly.

Garden Show Ireland returns to the stunning surroundings of the walled garden at Hillsborough Castle 18-20 May 2012.  For 3 days the atmospheric walled garden will hum with activity.

Entertaining stage performances by garden gurus, flower arrangers, TV celebrities and Jazz musicians will feature alongside demonstrations by traditional craftsmen and growers of local produce.

It’s a unique opportunity to buy rare and unusual plants and to admire the skills of garden designers and landscapers, or simply to sit back and enjoy a glass of wine or tea and scones while listening to the Jazz Band.
